Mental Health Awareness at the NTDC
Mental Health Awareness Week is here in the UK, and during the Covid-19 pandemic it has never been more important to look after your mental wellbeing.

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place this week, from 10th to 16th May. This year they are inviting people to take part in the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ and reconnect with nature along the way.

The Five Ways to Wellbeing are:
• Connect
• Be Active
• Take Notice
• Keep Learning
• Give

This was reflected in The University of Sheffield’s Virtual TechNet Wellbeing Event, during which they presented ‘6 Ways to Wellbeing’. You can read all about this event in our recent article by NTDC Research and Survey Officer Jedidah Mould.

Our Partners over at HEaTED have also launched a new course for technicians this week, Emotional Intelligence for Technicians.

“Harnessing Emotional Intelligence (EI) skills in the technical service functions will help reduce stress, mitigate challenges, enable effective teamwork, better manage conflicts and positively influence others. Moreover, it will increase confidence in communication and decision-making for greater outcomes.”

This is amongst existing HEaTED wellbeing courses, which include Technicians Supporting Students’ Wellbeing and Mental Health, Assertiveness for Technicians and How to Handle Conversations About Mental Health and Wellbeing.

You can read more about all of these courses over on the HEaTED website.

The University of Sheffield is also supporting the Green Ribbon Campaign through their association with ‘This is Me Yorkshire’. The Green Ribbon Campaign asks businesses to wear green ribbons to enable organisations to raise awareness and support their employees with their mental health and wellbeing. The campaign’s primary aim is to raise awareness, but you can also donate to support the movement and help to #endthestigma.
