As an Apprentice Technician, you will be helping to provide a high quality and professional service to academic staff, technical staff and students in a busy and successful university.
In particular your role will involve working as directed by senior technicians to prepare a variety of materials, facilities and equipment for use by staff and students, support teaching sessions and research activities across a number of disciplines, and maintain equipment and laboratories to ensure a safe working environment. The technical team support areas such as the mechanical and automotive laboratories, our engine test cell facility, our civil engineering laboratories and equipment, our geotechnical laboratory, our machine shop area that includes manufacturing equipment from manual machines through to a 5 axis machine centre, rapid prototyping facilities including 3D printing and laser cutters, alongside a workshop that supports woodworking activities.

Under the apprentice scheme, 20% of your working hours will be invested in training towards the achievement of your qualification. In addition to the support offered through the training provider, a workplace mentor will provide practical advice and guidance throughout the duration of your apprenticeship.
Apprentices will complete their off-the-job training by attending training workshops and via online modules.

Your line manager will meet with you regularly to review your progress and confirm opportunities available towards the end of your apprenticeship. This may include an offer of a permanent role together with the potential to explore further training and development.
