The School forms one of five within the Faculty of Science and Engineering and consists of two distinct research departments delivering world-leading research and high-class teaching: Chemistry and Physics and Astronomy.
About the Role
The School is seeking to appoint a Workshop Manager to oversee the management of the School’s mechanical workshop including oversight of effective and efficient provision of technical support for the purposes of research and commercial partnerships. The post holder will lead a team of technical staff and play an important role in the strategic planning for the workshop and development and growth of associated technical staff. The post-holder will work collaboratively with colleagues within the School and wider University to ensure the effective delivery of their objectives.
Candidates should have a qualification equitable to B Tec/ HNC/ HND/City & Guilds in Mechanical & Production Engineering or a recognized certificated apprenticeship in Engineering and have considerable experience of working in a workshop environment at management level. As a highly skilled manufacturing technician in mechanical engineering, you will be responsible for ensuring that the workshop facilities are maintained to the highest standards. You will support teaching, research and outreach.
The Workshop Manager is responsible for the effective day-to-day management, and safe operations of the School’s workshops including responsibility for ensuring that the workshops are properly equipped, serviced, stocked and supported.
The Workshop Manager work closely with the School Health and Safety Coordinator to ensure that the dedicated workshop spaces are operated and maintained in compliance with School and University policy and the UK Health and Safety Executive guidelines.

This post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full-time, permanent appointment with a start date of May 2022. The starting salary will be in the range £39,815-£46,843 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
