Technical Operations, Resources and Services (TORS) at Sheffield Hallam University provides high quality technical support for teaching and research within the University. The Laboratory and Analytical Operations (LAO) technical team supports laboratory-based activities across a range of disciplines. We are recruiting a technician to support the Teacher Education Science area primarily, but also to support other disciplines within the LAO area.  

In this role you would be directly involved in supporting laboratory-based activities in Teacher Education Science. You will be responsible for providing and continuously improving technical support for the under-graduate and post-graduate teaching program, working closely with other technical staff to achieve this and supporting a range of different laboratory areas for example, Biosciences and Chemistry, Natural Built Environment, Chemical Engineering and Food and Nutrition.

You will need to have relevant practical experience and knowledge of secondary science techniques covering all three scientific disciplines (biology, chemistry, and physics) with proficiency gained from method development and troubleshooting. Also, you should have good chemical safety knowledge and be proficient in the use of CLEAPPS resources to support practical delivery. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and develop skills to allow them to support the wider LAO practical delivery in the areas of Biosciences and Chemistry, Natural Built Environment, Chemical Engineering and Food and Nutrition, as well as providing support to the BMRC and MERI research centres as required. You will be highly motivated and meticulous in your work, with a professional work ethic, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively across team boundaries sharing knowledge and skills to ensure customer focussed results.
