The University is currently looking for an experienced, committed, and enthusiastic Lead Clinical Skills and Simulation Technician to help provide dedicated, high quality, technical support in the Clinical Skills and Simulation Laboratories for the Institute of Health & Social Care at the Southwark and Havering campuses. The institute comprises of 2 Schools, the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the School of Allied Health and Social Care.

This wide and varied role typically involves supervising the preparation of specialist spaces and equipment for practical classes, providing dedicated technical support for bespoke clinical and simulation systems, playing a key role in supporting less experienced staff and being actively involved in supporting academic colleagues in practical sessions.

About you

You will have experience of working as a clinical skills technician in a higher education environment, excellent leadership skills and a good working knowledge and understanding of the typical simulation equipment used and be adept in configuring these for a variety of healthcare scenarios.

This will be coupled with significant relevant experience relating to trouble shooting and the complex maintenance of simulators and part task trainers.

As an excellent communicator you will be able to explain technical issues to those less experienced and have a proven ability in providing high quality, customer focused technical support and technical demonstrations in either a higher education or professional environment.

The clinical skills and simulation labs are maintained by a dedicated team of technicians who support students and staff in use of specialist equipment and related processes.

As an integral member of this team, you will present and demonstrate key technologies, facilitate practical sessions, and play a key role in ensuring that the environments and technical equipment run smoothly.

You will actively contribute to the development of teaching/simulation sessions and demonstrate a variety of technologies and/or techniques to groups of students or other identified stakeholders as required.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues on a variety of enterprise activities and contribute positively to a wide range of research projects.

You will play a key role in configuring and maintaining specialist equipment in the designated areas, providing procurement advice and installation support whilst liaising with external partners as required to ensuring that the systems remain operational.

The skills and experience you will need to be successful

A degree or equivalent educational/professional experience in providing technical support in a Clinical Skills and Simulation or Healthcare based discipline.

Able to demonstrate practical knowledge of working in a clinical skills or simulation type environment with a proven ability to troubleshoot technical problems in an active environment.

Highly effective computing, interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to coherently convey specialised technical information in educational or professional environments.

Details about the role and how to apply

This is a full-time campus-based role. The working week will be 35 hours, worked from Monday to Friday; flexibly between 8:00 to 6:00pm, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break each day. Please note that due to the nature of the role start/finish may vary (as indicated above).
