An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) for an enthusiastic Environmental Chemistry Technician to join our skilled team of Technical staff. The post is part time (2.5 days a week or hours equivalent to 0.5 FTE) for three years and is being offered as a career grade role, spanning grades 5 and 6 of the University pay scale. Applications are invited from those meeting the requirements for either grade. If appointed at grade 5 you are expected to undertake a program of development to enable you to progress and carry out the role at the higher grade.
Working closely with colleagues, you will have an enthusiastic approach to providing guidance and training in the safe and effective use of the laboratories and equipment related to the Environmental Chemistry research group. Whilst the role is primarily focused on supporting research activities, it will include the training and oversight of undergraduate and postgraduate students using specific analytical techniques in environmental organic chemistry and biochemistry. The successful candidate will have:
- A proven ability to plan and prioritise tasks.
- Excellent time management and attention to detail.
- Experience of providing advice and training to others.
- Practical experience of using HPLC and GC-FID instrumentation and associated techniques.
- The ability to ensure compliance with appropriate legislation.
This three-year part-time post is available to start as soon as possible until 30th August 2025.
