Vacancy: Technical Officer – CGI Immersive Technology at MMU (Closed)

Technical Services are a large and diverse team of highly skilled technicians who ensure the optimal functioning of specialist spaces to deliver an exceptional student experience. We work in specialist laboratories, workshops, studios, resource centres and IT facilities; and our technical professionals play a key role supporting, guiding and advising students across our university from sciences, art, design and technology, through to sports, ceramics, nursing and physiotherapy. 

This role sits in the Digital Arts team, who provide specialist technical support and technical training to the Faculty of Art & Humanities and the School of the Digital Arts (SODA). The team manages and supports a wide range of specialist studio spaces and studios, whilst delivering an extensive technical skill taught provision to students. The team support a diverse range of programmes and subject areas including filmmaking, TV & radio, 2D and 3D animation, graphics, games art, virtual and augmented reality and immersive technology. 

The successful candidate will be a proficient and a practicing technical specialist in the area of CGI and Immersive Technologies. They should have a demonstrative ability to operate a wide range of specialist studio equipment safely and to a high standard, including skill in the use of high-end computers and software for the purposes of teaching and supporting the creation of computer-generated imagery, simulation and animation. A broad understanding of VR/AR development pipelines is vital and knowledge and proven ability with several industry standard 3D based software packages, primarily Unreal Engine. Proven skills within, but not limited to Maya, Unity, Blender or 3DS Max are also essential. It would be desirable to have skills in 3D creation and presentation portals like Spatial.io. Sketchup, Mozilla Hubs, Spoke, SketchFab, AutoCad, and Vectorworks. An understanding of motion tracking and 3D printing is also advantageous. They will have a proven record of accomplishment in a similar environment or their own established practice. Additionally, they will have a positive and flexible approach to your work, be reliable and punctual as well as be motivated and willing to undertake all required training and allocated tasks. They will have the ability to work alongside others and be capable of working in a team, whilst striving to deliver excellent customer service. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to demonstrate ownership of personal workload is required.
