An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Digital Technology team within Technical Services at Manchester Metropolitan University as a Linux & Robotic Systems Technician.Â

Working in specialist laboratories, workshops, studios and supporting specialist hardware and software, our technical professionals play a key role supporting, guiding and advising students and academics across the university from sciences, art, design and technology, through to sports, ceramics, nursing and physiotherapy.Â

The Role: Â
Working in the Digital Technology team you will support teaching and funded research, alongside commercial activities. You will be responsible for assisting students and research staff with activities that use the Linux operating system, Robotic systems and software and UAVs and their associated specialist software applications. As part of the Linux team you will provision support across the faculty and university. Duties will include developing partnerships with external agencies and engaging in collaborative projects. To develop and implement ideas to enhance service delivery in support of teaching and research that use the Linux OS platform, Robotic systems and potentially UAVs and associated software. Administration, maintenance and health & safety will also feature in this role.   Â
About You: Â
As a Linux & Robotic systems technician, the successful candidate will be expected to have substantial experience with the Linux operating system. You should have proficiency in ROS, Python or C++. An understanding of UAV systems and operation, and a CAA GVC flying qualification or equivalent would be advantageous. You will have a flexible approach to work and an ability to work on your own initiative. You will be expected to participate in external networks and user groups, attending relevant events to keep up to date with the latest developments and techniques and share information with colleagues.  Strong communication skills and a commitment to quality service will also play an important part in being successful in this post.   Â
